USAID supports the rights of mentally ill persons in Western Region
A USAID/Ghana intervention is working to challenge the long-held misconception that most mental illnesses are the direct cause of demon possession and curses from the gods. Throughout Ghana many so-called prayer camps and traditional healers offer help to mentally ill persons.

Program Grantee promotes participatory local governance in Western Region
through radio
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), a civil society organisation, has observed that for Ghana to experience rapid socio-economic development there is the need for effective participatory local governance.
To this end, MFWA in collaboration with eight radio stations in the Western Region had embarked on a programme to facilitate the process through a USAID grant, in the Western Region.

"Change attitude towards persons with disabilities" – Western Regional Minister
Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, the Western Regional Minister, has appealed to Ghanaians to change their attitude and perceptions about Persons With Disability (PWDs). He said anyone could be disabled too and hence it was important for all to change their perspectives that hinder the development of PWDs saying “we must encourage and provide them with the necessary support and assistance for their advancement and welfare.”

Status of Small Grants scheme applications
79 organisations submitted concept papers with 46 qualifying to stage 2. 41 out of the 46 applied and their applications are being evaluated. They will be dully informed through writing when final decisions are made on their applications.
